Joey Luthman, an award-winning actor known for his roles in shows like Weeds, Modern Family, Hawaii Five-O, and Chicago Med, sat down with Host Matthew Gilbey on his passion for animal welfare in this latest episode of Student Pages Spotlight.

Luthman’s involvement with Every Cat Health Foundation stems from his deep love for cats, particularly after experiencing personal losses, including the passing of his cat Winter from chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition prevalent among older cats. Recognizing the urgency of raising awareness about CKD and feline cancer, he committed to helping fellow cat owners learn about these diseases and their signs.

Luthman has set a significant fundraising goal of $1 million to support research for CKD and cancer, inspired by the loss of his friend’s cat Momo to cancer. Though they currently stand at $18,000, Luthman believes they can reach their target. To kick off their fundraising efforts, Luthman undertook an ambitious challenge: he rode a one-wheel electric skateboard across the United States from California to Maine, covering approximately 3,700 miles in 45 days.

Accompanied by friends who assisted with logistics, the journey was documented in a film titled Catman Journey. Luthman emphasizes the importance of setting large goals to maintain motivation for fun and engaging fundraising events as they work towards their mission of raising money for cats in need.
